National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the re-conduct of the UGC NET June 2026 English, Commerce and Sociology papers. The decision was taken after NTA received several complaints regarding multiple errors in these three question papers.

According to the NTA Public Notice dated 16 August 2026, a committee was formed to examine the reported issues. The committee found several factual, typographical, translation, grammatical and other errors in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers. It also reported repetition of a significant number of questions that had appeared in previous examinations.

NTA has therefore decided that these three papers will be conducted again to ensure a fair and error-free examination. The re-examination will be held on 9 and 10 September 2026.

UGC NET June 2026 Re-Conduct of English, Commerce and Sociology Papers

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 examination from 22 to 30 June 2026 across 87 subjects, for the award of Junior Research Fellowship, eligibility for Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programmes.

In respect of three subjects, namely English, Commerce and Sociology, NTA received several complaints regarding multiple errors in these papers. Accordingly, NTA formed a committee to enquire into and look into these errors.

The Committee found that the three papers had many factual, typographical, translation errors, including:

  • Misspelt names of prominent scholars
  • Garbled book titles
  • Errors in the stem wording of questions
  • Grammatical errors
  • Gender and number agreement errors
  • Punctuation mistakes
  • Non-standard coined terms for established concepts
  • Repetition of a significant number of questions previously administered

The Committee recommended that, in the interest of holding a fair and error-free examination, these three papers should be re-conducted.

It has therefore been concluded by NTA that papers carrying such defects do not meet the standards of fairness and error-free examination, and defects of this extent cannot be cured merely by dropping questions after the challenge process.
