  • Master’s Degree: Candidates need a minimum of 55% marks in their Master’s degree or an equivalent grade in the relevant subject.
  • Marks Relaxation: Candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Backward Classes (BC), and Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) of Bihar get a 5% relaxation. This means they only need 50% marks in their Master’s degree. Physically challenged people from Bihar also get a 5% relaxation. However, a candidate cannot combine both relaxation benefits.
  • National Eligibility Test (NET): The applicant must have cleared the NET exam conducted by UGC or CSIR.
  • Ph.D. Exemption: Candidates who hold a PhD degree under the UGC regulations of 2009 or 2016 do not need to pass the NET exam. If a candidate registered for a PhD before 2009, they can also get an exemption if their degree satisfies conditions like regular mode study, evaluation by two external examiners, and paper presentations. PhD degrees from top 500 foreign universities are also valid.
