Scoring 270 out of 300 and securing All India Rank 1 in YOGA is an achievement that stands out. But Piyush Sharma’s journey is about much more than a rank or a score. His story reflects discipline, self-belief, a strong connection with Yoga, and the determination to change how people perceive the subject.

JRF Adda UGC NET Topper List 2026

Piyush scored 90 marks in Paper 1 and 180 marks in Paper 2, answering 45 questions correctly in Paper 1 and 90 questions correctly in Paper 2. His exceptional performance made him the JRF Adda YOGA Topper, and his journey offers valuable lessons for aspirants preparing for UGC NET Yoga.

“Yoga ko bahut izzat milni chahiye.”

For Piyush, securing AIR 1 was not just about clearing an examination. It was also about leading by example and showing that Yoga can be a serious, intellectually demanding, and respected career choice.

Piyush’s Journey: From Commerce and CA Preparation to Yoga

Piyush’s academic journey was far from conventional.

He came from a Commerce background and later prepared for CA. He reached the CA Final stage at a very young age, but due to personal circumstances, he had to leave that path behind. He then went through a difficult phase before discovering Yoga.

His father eventually suggested that he explore the Yoga field. What started as an unexpected transition gradually became a meaningful journey.

Piyush recalls that moving from an English-medium Commerce and CA background to studying Hindi and Sanskrit was challenging.

“CA se yahan ka transition bahut mushkil tha… par main shuru se start karne ka wo pain jaanta hoon. Cheezein alag ho sakti hain, par dard to waisa hi hai.”

Instead of allowing the difficulty to stop him, Piyush accepted the challenge and continued moving forward.

His journey eventually took him to a Master’s degree in Yoga, where his interest in the subject deepened.

“Yoga Jeevan Hai”: Why Piyush Chose Yoga

For Piyush, Yoga is not simply an examination subject. It is a way of understanding life.

When asked what makes Yoga special, his answer was simple:

“Yoga jeevan hai.”

He explains that Yoga exists throughout life, even when we may not consciously recognize it. His understanding of Yoga also influences his approach to challenges, expectations, and personal growth.

According to Piyush, Yoga teaches us to look at life’s problems from a different perspective.

“Yoga kya hai? Subconscious ki training hai ki problems mein bhi aap khush reh sakte ho.”

This mindset became an important part of his preparation journey as well.

His Biggest Preparation Mantra: Discipline

For Piyush, preparation begins with discipline.

But he does not define discipline as simply waking up at a particular time, following a strict routine, or eating at fixed hours.

Instead, he explains discipline through the idea of being completely present in whatever you are doing.

“Jab aap jo kaam kar rahe ho, bas us kaam mein hi tanmay raho. Wahi discipline hai.”

For a student, that means being completely focused on being a student when it is time to study.

“Us time main kisi ka beta nahi hoon. Us time main kisi ka pati nahi hoon. Main us time ek student hoon. Aur student ka kaam kya hai? Padhai karna.”

His approach was therefore not just about studying harder but about being fully present while studying.

How Piyush Prepared for Paper 1

Piyush scored an impressive 90 marks in Paper 1, with 45 questions correct.

Since Mathematics was already one of his strengths, he did not spend excessive time on it. However, he focused particularly on areas such as Teaching Aptitude and Unit 8, where he found the JRF Adda content especially useful.

He also emphasized the importance of PYQs and test series.

Rather than trying to become an expert in every single unit, Piyush focused on understanding what was actually required to crack the examination.

“Humein expert nahi banna. Bas PYQs ke basis pe ye dekhna hai ki kaise exam crack ho jaye.”

This is an important lesson for aspirants: preparation should be exam-oriented, especially when time and attention are limited.

Why Piyush Found JRF Adda Helpful

Piyush specifically spoke about his experience with JRF Adda and its educators.

One of the biggest challenges he faced while preparing through YouTube was finding genuine, focused content.

“YouTube pe dikkat pata hai kya hai? Ek video search karo, baadh aa jaati hai videos ki. Usmein se genuine content dhoondhna bahut mushkil hai.”

He found JRF Adda’s teaching approach more engaging because the concepts were connected with real-life examples.

Talking about the educator whose classes he followed, he said:

“Aapke videos kaafi interesting hain. Aap real life se relate karke kaafi saari cheezein batate ho. To it is very helpful.”

For Piyush, preparation was not only about lectures. The overall learning experience also mattered.

He appreciated the combination of classes, marathon sessions, PYQ discussions, test series, and motivational content.

“Padhai to shandaar hai hi. Uske alawa jo ek experience ke liye insaan aata hai, wo bahut zaroori hai.”

This holistic learning experience helped make preparation more engaging and manageable for him.

JRF Adda Test Series and PYQs Were Important

Piyush highlighted the importance of solving previous-year questions and taking mock tests.

He followed the PYQ-based approach to understand what the examination actually demanded rather than spending unnecessary time trying to master everything equally.

He also joined the JRF Adda Test Series, which became another important part of his preparation.

For aspirants, his strategy can be summed up simply:

  • Understand the syllabus.
  • Prioritize PYQs.
  • Identify high-value topics.
  • Practice through tests.
  • Avoid spending excessive time trying to master every unit.
  • Focus on what helps you actually crack the examination.

How Piyush Approached the Actual Exam

Piyush’s examination strategy was another major factor behind his outstanding score.

He completed the paper in around 90 minutes, leaving significant time for review.

He initially categorized questions based on his confidence level. Questions where he needed to look at the options were treated as doubtful and marked for review.

Interestingly, some of his mistakes came during the review process.

Piyush admitted:

“10 mein se paanch sawaal to revisit karne ki wajah se galat hue.”

Some questions that he had initially approached correctly became confusing when he revisited them.

This experience highlights an important exam-day lesson: reviewing can help, but unnecessary overthinking can also change correct answers into incorrect ones.

Despite this, Piyush finished with an extraordinary 180/200 in Paper 2.

270/300: A Score That Made History for His Preparation Journey

Piyush’s final score of 270 out of 300 reflected the consistency of his preparation.

His score breakdown was:

Paper Score
Paper 1 90/100
Paper 2 180/200
Total 270/300

He also entered the examination with confidence. After the exam, he told his younger brother that if everything went well, he could secure All India Rank 1.

That confidence was ultimately backed by his performance.

Piyush’s Advice to Yoga Aspirants

Piyush believes that students preparing for Yoga should first understand that they do not need to be perfect at everything.

The goal is to develop an examination-oriented strategy.

His advice is particularly relevant for students who feel overwhelmed by the enormous amount of available study material.

“Sabse pehle exam crack karna important hai.”

Once you understand the examination, identify recurring patterns through PYQs, and practice consistently, preparation becomes more focused.

Start With the Right Resources

Piyush also recommends beginning with authentic and focused Yoga content.

Interestingly, during his own preparation, he created a YouTube channel called Yogacharan to share Yoga content.

His goal was not only to prepare for the examination but also to make authentic Yoga knowledge more accessible.

He explains:

“Jo maine khud follow kiya, wahi main usmein sikhata hoon.”

He also uses music, poetry, and traditional texts as ways of making complex concepts easier to understand and remember.

His creative work includes converting the Bhagavad Gita’s 700 shlokas into 133 savaiya verses, along with other works related to Yoga and Indian spiritual texts.

What Makes Piyush’s Story Different?

Piyush’s story is not a conventional topper story.

He did not begin with a straightforward academic path toward UGC NET Yoga. He moved from Commerce and CA preparation to Yoga, faced difficulties in adapting to a completely different academic environment, and eventually turned that challenge into his strength.

His journey demonstrates that a non-linear academic journey does not have to limit your future.

Instead, your previous experiences can become part of your preparation mindset.

His philosophy is simple:

“Jab ek baar soch hi liya, to phir karte hain.”

JRF Adda’s Role in Piyush’s Success

Piyush’s testimonial reflects how structured content, PYQs, test series, engaging teaching, and a supportive learning environment can complement a student’s own discipline and determination.

His experience with JRF Adda particularly highlights three things:

  1. Focused Learning:
Instead of getting lost in the overwhelming amount of online content, he valued structured and relevant teaching.
  2. PYQ-Based Preparation:
He repeatedly emphasized PYQs as a way to understand what the examination actually demands.
  3. Complete Learning Experience:
For Piyush, preparation was not limited to lectures. The combination of classes, tests, marathons, PYQs, and positive content contributed to his overall preparation experience.

From Student to Example: Piyush’s Message to Future Aspirants

Piyush wanted to change the perception that Yoga is somehow a lesser or less intellectually demanding subject.

His AIR 1 performance became his way of demonstrating that Yoga deserves recognition and respect.

“Mujhe wo todna tha ki nahi, Yoga ko bahut izzat milni chahiye.”

And perhaps that is the biggest takeaway from his story.

Piyush did not simply prepare to clear UGC NET. He wanted to lead by example.

His journey from Commerce and CA preparation to becoming the UGC NET Yoga AIR 1, his 270/300 score, and his association with JRF Adda show what can happen when focused preparation meets discipline, confidence, and genuine passion for a subject.

Piyush’s Success Formula

Discipline + PYQs + Test Series + Focused Resources + Positive Mindset + Consistent Preparation = Exam Success

His story is a reminder for every UGC NET aspirant: your starting point does not define your destination.

What matters is how seriously you commit to the journey.
