Historical Background<\/b><\/h2>\n

The events that led to the <\/span>Chandragupta Maurya\u2013Seleucus Treaty<\/b> were shaped by the power vacuum left after <\/span>Alexander the Great\u2019s death<\/b> in 323 BCE. Alexander\u2019s vast empire in western Asia was divided among his generals, known as the <\/span>Diadochi<\/b>, and one of the most prominent of these was <\/span>Seleucus I Nicator<\/b>, who controlled large territories stretching from Babylon to parts of western India.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, <\/span>Chandragupta Maurya<\/b> was consolidating his rule in northern India, having recently defeated the Nanda dynasty and established the Mauryan Empire. His ambitions were to secure Magadha and expand northwestward, bringing him into potential conflict with Seleucus, who was interested in regaining influence over these regions.<\/span><\/p>\n
