Society in Gupta period was mainly based on the varna system, but it became more complex with the rise of jatis. Social life was organized, yet differences between groups increased.This period is often called a classical age, not only for culture but also for social development.<\/span><\/p>\n

Varna System in Gupta Period<\/b><\/h2>\n

During the Gupta period, society largely followed the traditional <\/span>four-fold varna system<\/b>, which organized people based on their duties and occupation. Over time, these divisions became <\/span>more rigid and hierarchical<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Main Varnas:<\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Brahmins<\/b> \u2013 Priests, scholars, and teachers of religious texts. They performed rituals, guided kings, and preserved knowledge.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Kshatriyas<\/b> \u2013 Warriors and rulers responsible for protecting the kingdom and administering law and order.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Vaishyas<\/b> \u2013 Farmers, traders, and merchants who supported the economy through agriculture, trade, and animal husbandry.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Shudras<\/b> \u2013 Laborers and service providers who performed manual work and served other groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
